What's the meaning, when talking on cinema, of a short feature in length. It seems it is referring to a short but the movie they are talking about is a classic doc, Drifters, by Grierson, and it is round 45 minutes long, so wouldn't we say it is rather a medium-length film?

Thanks

Formerly, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, and the British Film Institute all defined a feature as a film with a running time of 40 minutes or longer. This has long been changed, so that a feature now runs 90+ minutes.
To differentiate such short and long features, they are now referred to as a full-feature film and short feature film.

I think for a movie this can certainly be considered rather short. I had to check, It seems to last one hour, that's what they say here, anyway. but even one hour would be short in my opinion.

Yes, Thank You, but then, what is it understood by a short feature in lenght? Just a short? My problem, here, is this in lenght, which seems to be referring to the movie running time, isn't it?

Thanks again

Re-read my post:

How long is the movie Drifters? - 45 mins.
How long is a feature? - 90+ minutes
Hence, a feature film with a running time less than 90 minutes is a short feature in length - a short feature so classified because of its short length.
A short would be a documentary, or an animated cartoon which (in the cinema) are usually far less than 90 minutes.
However, Disney might release an animated movie of some fairy tale as a 'feature'. It is not a cartoon, but because it lasts 70 minutes, would be classified as a short feature.

Yes, yes, I've understood your first answer very well. The problem is that here, in Catalonia, there is still a difference between a short, medium or full-length movie, and a movie 30 minutes in length is already a medium-length movie. But, ok; all your information is quite useful. Thank You

You flabbergast me.
Somebody else will tell you what it means.

Not required. All is clear. Terribly sorry. My problem was in the meaning of "in length" but while talking about the length of the movies all has become clear. The blend of all subjects has possibly caused this blurred situation I didn't intend at all.

Excuse me and thank you
