When you are in Moscow try the 'Russian Standard Platinum' brand of vodka, and the nights won't seem long.
Is this the brand that you and your English Terrier concoct each night in your bathtub???

8.3 C is about 47 F!!!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Even the polar bears want to leave Moscow for a couple of days until things warm up!!! :) Bea, be sure to bring along an extra bottle of vodka for those long Russian nights!!

Bea,

There are so called 'white nights' (the muidnight sun) now in St. Petersburg. You can watch the bridges being separated. It's very beautiful. So there'll be no need for vodka.:-D

You mean you'll have 57 teens to look after?

yes,but there will be another teacher, a thirty-year old male colleague of mine , to help me (still,I've already started having nightmares since most of them are about 16 and I'd hate to return with a few girls expecting)
This means 5 nights of sleeping on the floor, parked before the girls' dorm -
I do love teaching. ;-)

From what you write it's more about being a night guard than a teacher. Some 20-25 years ago (it's terrifying when you think in those numbers) I used to go to a scout-camp as a scout-master every summer. My favourite age was 10-11 year-olds. With them I had no trouble. But once I was given a group of 15 year-olds. It was a week's nightmare. Every night the boys would pay visits to the girls' bedrooms, smoke there, laugh, etc. I had to get up several times a night to make them go back. After a week I asked the boss to give me another group.
I admire your bravery.

I have to confess I was considering of coming down with some mysterious illness, but I simply can't leave my colleague and friend to face that nightmare on his own.
Since their parents have already paid for the trip, they expect round-the-clock surveillance plus psychological pampering.
Only last week a very charming mother told me about her obnoxious, leering offspring ,"You know,he is so shy,he's still a child,in fact....".
Said helpless creature was found inside the girls' restroom two days later , partially undressed (I'll spare you the gory details), but our headmistress, who never ventures out of her office into the deadly war zone called classrooms, did not suspend the poor innocent, she just casually remarked the little imp needed a gentle hand ;-)
When I remarked just as casually I was certainly not going to offer mine , I was kindly given a piece of her mind. And of course ,the helpless imp will be coming along to Rome

The school I worked in 20 years ago looked exactly what you describe as deadly war zone. At first I tried to discipline them, but then I realized that it was just dangerous. So I simply said to myself 'let them do what they want' and was getting my salary under the false pretence of teaching English. It lasted for 3 years and then I quit. I think I understand your feelings. If I had to go somewhere with such delinquents, I would pretend that everything was going fine and wouldn't care a bit if it was quite the opposite.
By the way, if you have a camera, it might be interesting to make a video of your trip. Maybe you could use it then as evidence to convince the parents that their kids aren't angels.
