The sentence:
What seemd to me to penetrate life to the core--and therefore to be, ultimately, what living was for, in addition to relationship with other people--was the creation and absorption of works of art.
What does "absorption" mean there in the sentence? My text says it means "a state of mental concentration", but I think it's simply "the act or process of learining": to the author learning and understanding works of art is the most improtant thing in his/her life.
Which interpretation is correct?
