Hello. What the difference between the following sentences?

1a. We have adjacent rooms.
1b. We have adjoining rooms.

2a. We live in the two buildings adjoining each other.
2b. We live in the two buildings adjacent to each other.

"Adjoining" suggests a physical connection (allowing access) between them (e.g., a door in the case of rooms, or a corridor in the case of buildings).

"Adjacent" just means next to or very close to.
