I have tried to use "contritely" in my sentence. Would you please correct my mistakes?

Teacher asked Anna if she had copied her essay from the Internet. "Yes," she said contritely. "I quarrelled with my boyfriend, got into a state, and was unable to write it myself."

See above. You have used "contritely" appropriately. I would probably say "I had had a row with my boyfriend, ...".
