Would you please help me with these sentences and correct my mistakes? Is it correct to start after "empty" with "but not Maria whose wings..." or do I need to add something like "but it was not the case with Maria whose wings grew strong..."

After a divorce, many people suffer and feel empty, but not Maria whose wings grew strong and she felt free like a bird. She immediately undertook a trip around the world and had a time of her life.
