It bothers me not to know what preposition to use with "wake up." Is it correct to use "to"? Would you please correct my mistakes?

After a traffic accident, Peter suffered from bad sleep. He would wake up to the faintest sound, like the creaking of the floor and stairs, and was unable to sleep again.

If you "wake up to" something, it means that you only noticed it when you woke up.
"I woke up to the sound of rain on the rooftops and knew the picnic I had planned would be cancelled."
"We woke up to four feet of fresh snow."
