After war enthusiasm

I am wondering if my sentence makes sense in English. Would you please correct my mistakes?

After war enthusiasm, comes rude awakening when people start to understand that life will never be the same, and that they have lost part of themselves which they will never find again.

"war enthusiasm" doesn't work for me. There is an article missing before "rude awakening".
