Are my sentences grammatically correct?

After decades of being away, Andy came to his hometown and saw children sledging down the hill, the same his brother and he had sledged when they were small. He suddenly got an idea to ask the boys to join them on the sledge and go down, feeling again the wind and cold stinging his now wrinkled face.

Close! A sledge isn't a sled.

Interesting trivia: In the northern US, a toboggan is a kind of sled. In the southern US, it's a kind of hat.

"Sledge" is BrE for "sled" in AmE.

This one of the differences which probably makes many people confused when they see it in writing or hear it in speech.

Andy should join boys because they were using sledges, and he was watching them.

Sledging down a snowy hill is perfectly acceptable in BrE.

I'd say he "came back" or "returned" to his hometown, not just "came".

I would write "... just as he and his brother had when they were young".
