Agony aunt An agony aunt is a newspaper columnist who gives advice to people having problems, especially personal ones.

Hello Teacher,

In case that I clearly know the columnist is male, should I switch the idiom to " agony uncle" or " agony aunt" is suit for both male and female columnist"?

Thank you!

Stick with "aunt" - it's the column which is an "Agony Aunt Column" rather than that the columnist has to be female to write it.
