I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

Although a theatre was from Bill's home just a hundred meters away, it never occurred to him to go there, because he could not imagine himself sitting still for more than an hour and watching in silence actors on the stage. He was used to going to football matches, where he could shout, boo and cheer to his heart's content.

See above. Your first sentence was one of the messiest you have ever written! Sorry, but it's true.

emsr2d2,
Thank you for your honest remark. I wanted to avoid using "there was" and therefore started with "Although a theatre was..." which resulted in such a messy sentence. Is there any other way to start my sentence without using "there was"?

Perhaps:

Although there happened to be a theatre just a hundred metres from Bill's house, it never occurred to him to go there, because he could not imagine sitting still for more than an hour and silently watching a play.
