I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Although Maria was handsomely paid, she quit the company because of her colleagues' rapacity. Since childhood, she had been inculcated with the idea that money should never be a goal in itself but a means to lead a better life, and here she was surrounded by people for whom money meant everything.

Many readers will be reaching for the dictionary with "rapacity" and "inculcated". I know you've said in the past that you're trying to write formal English but it still needs to be comprehensible to the average native English speaker.

I used those words because I only wanted to know if I can use them correctly and to remember them. I don't know if I will ever use them in my writing, but I think it is useful know if they make sense in my sentence.
