what is the difference between "American culture and the culture of America"?

==> Adjective + Noun
==> Chinese culture, Western culture


the culture of America (OK)
==> the culture about a country
==> the culture of China/France


the culture of American (OK)
==> the culture about the people
==> the culture of Chinese/French

Shouldn't that be plural?

I think using sigular form to indicate a general idea is acceptable. Plural froms occur when you're talking about different ways of life of a group of people. :wink:
