" An historical moment" or " A historical moment"

Can anyone help with the above? I can't really figure out when to use 'an' and 'a' following the word 'historical'. I read "an historical moment" from some book and thought it sounded awkward to my ears. I have always thought 'a' was the right one to use. Now I don't know!!! Help!:-?

Certain words in English, spelled with initial "h", were/are pronounced with a silent "h". These include horrible, hospital, host, hotel, human, humour, and the indefinite article "an" was used.
The current usage is increasingly to pronounce the "h"and to use "a" instead of "an".

Precisely! that's what I know about the silent 'h' thing. So it really means that both are acceptable, right? Nobody will book me for saying "an historical moment" (not that I am going to start using it now!:lol I'll stick to using preposition 'a' instead. Thanks!
