Is the following sentence grammatically correct?
He wrote a book about his life and it was sold millions of copies.

No. It was sold means "it" (the book) bought millions of copies of something. Leave out was and your sentence will be correct. Better: He wrote a book about his life and it sold by the millions.

You could change "was" to "has". The past perfect tense shows sales in the past and continuing on to the future.

He wrote a book about his life and it has sold millions of copies.
