Are these senetences acceptable?

Dear teachers,

Are these senetences acceptable?
1. Can you suggest a good English teacher?
2. In order to prevent my schoolwork from being influenced by the terrible habit, I decided to change.

Here are my questions:
1. Shouldn't "suggest" always be followed by something as its object?
2. How to make the second sentence less wordy?

They are okay.

"A good teacher" does follow "suggest" as an object.

I've seen a lot of English learners use this structure: Can you recommend/suggest me a good teacher. That's incorrect because it sounds like "me" is what is being suggested, instead of making the suggestion to me.

What is the bad habit? It's hard to write a shorter version without knowing what you're writing about. However, you can almost always shorted "In order to" to simply "to."

Number 1. is OK and 2. is OK but I would change "influenced", which suggests a personal meaning, to "effected" which is impersonal.
