I have a question about the word "is" in the phrase "as far as _____ is from _____."
I first heard it in a song "as far as the East is from the West." Also, for example, "I drove 4000 km. That's as far as New York is from LA."
Why do you need the "is" in the middle? Can you leave it off?

I'd leave is in, but it doesn't sound like an error to me to omit it. However, That's as far as New York to LA sounds better.
