Hello, everyone.

While I have been preparing a test, I came across the following question

Like the good soldier _______________, John McCain has done almost everything the Bush campaign has asked.
(a) that he is
(b) as he is
(c) who he is
(d) as he

They said the answer is (a). But, I can not figure out why (b) is unnatural by myself. If you incert (b) into the blank, what unnatural meaning happens?

Many thanks in advance.

It's simply that we don't use "as" that way.

The following is correct: "Good soldier as he is, John McCain has done almost everything the Bush campaign has asked.:
That's probably why they included it.
