I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

As I was walking down the street, a car drew up level with me. The passenger's window rolled down, and the man asked me where the nearest petrol station was.

I'd write "a car pulled up beside me." Omit the comma after "down".

I'd use "... pulled alongside me and the driver rolled the window down to ask me where the nearest petrol station was".
