I think the phrase "as well as" has become a replacement for the word "and" and "and and not only" . If you use the same verb between "as well as", the verb form should stay the same.
ex.
I like to eat oranges as well as I like to eat apples.
If you decide to change the verb, then it can be changed to a gerund.
Ex.
"I like to eat oranges as well as pigging (-ing) out on apples".
"His death leaves a gap in our lives as well as creating sadness and loneliness".
