Hello!

Picasso Sells at Record Auction Price By SOUREN MELIKIAN
On Tuesday night, a painting dashed off by Picasso in just one day in 1964 became the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction as it rose to $106.5 million. (IHT May6, 2010)
What is the meaning of 'as' in the sentence above? :drinking:

Probably, when or while, or because. I think all of them are wrong.

Thanks in advance

You're right both times ;-) (It's used to 'mean' when, and it makes no sense.) Journalists often use 'as' in this meaningless way. I think it's a shame, but it happens.
