1-He was a good player as was his brother.

I think if one adds a comma to this sentence after "player" then it will mean: "He was a good player and so was his brother."
but as it is, technically doesn't it mean:

a-"He was a good player in the same way as his brother (was a good player)"?

Would any one use 1 instead of a?
Is 1 correct as it is?

As per my suggestion........:shock:

He was a good player as his brother was.

Or

He was one of the good player as his brother was.
