Which of these is correct:
1-He played guitar, as did I.
2-He played guitar, as I did.

Is there any difference in the meaning of the two sentences?

I know "so did I", but have no idea of "as did I".

2-He played guitar, as I did.
I'd say the first is more likelt to mean on an occasion and the second the ability.

PS, I'd also be tempted to say 'the guitar', which, given that Ron didn't mention it, might be a BE difference. It doesn't sound wrong with guitar, but with some instruments, it would be very weird. ;-)

I think "the guitar" is definitely correct, but "guitar" seems OK too. I think you can check this in a song by David Bowie in which he says "And Ziggy played guitar". I am no big expert on David Bowie, but the song must be on the "Ziggy Stardust" album.
Rock songs are, as we all know, the ultimate reference for correct usage in the English language!!!
