dear what is the rule for the pronuciation of final s and ed

thank you

-ed ending:

If the stem of the word ends with either a "t" or "d" sound, then the -ed is pronounced as an extra syllable, and sounds like "id".

Want - want'id (2 syallables)

If the stem ends with an unvoiced sound (s, sh, k, p, x), then the -ed is shortened to just the sound of the "d" but it sounds like a "t"

Miss - miss't (1 syllable)

If the stem ends with a voiced sound (all the others), then the -ed is shortened to just the sound of the "d" and it sounds like a "d".

Harm - harm'd (1 syllable)
