At an old professor's funeral

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

At an old professor's funeral just a few people were present: some of his colleagues and the widows of his already deceased colleagues.

Unless the colleagues died very recently I would probably say, 'the widows of his former colleagues.' The fact that they're widows already tells us that the colleagues are deceased.
