back and forth

Would it be correct in English to say "Narrative plait going back and forth through dates and continents..." in the sense of a story which constantly jumps from era to era and from place to place from different continents?

Does it sound English? Would you say it in a different manner?

Sorry, my fault. What I wanted to say is not "story" or " narrative" but "narrative plait", that's to say the interwoven elements making up a story. Can not be said the sentence in this sense with back and forth, then?

I thought that was what you intended, but it does not quite work.

You could try " the interwoven narrative goes back and forth..." or "the plaited narrative goes back and forth...", either of which would be fine

How about: "The narrative's thread weaves back and forth...."

Narrative and plait don't really gel together, but above is the best I can do to bring out the plait/weaving concept.
