I am wondering which of these two sentences are grammatically correct?

1. Bea was playing the piano since the age of five, and by the age of seventeen, she gave her first full-length concert.

2. Bea had been playing the piano since the age of five, and by the age of seventeen, she gave her first full-length concert.

2. Bea had been playing the piano since the age of five, and by the age of seventeen, she gave her first full-length concert. :cross: The use of "gave" is wrong at the end.

Stick with the start of sentence 2 but try again with the tense before "her first full-length concert", because of your use of "by the age of seventeen".

Remove the comma. You can leave it like it is after that, with "and" or use:

... the age of five; by the age of seventeen ...
