Sorry for crapping out on you, but my quest for (a) beach body was too important.

Do I need 'a' before 'beach body'?

Well my friends were going to go see a movie and they asked me go with them. And what I said in reply was quite similar to what's quoted in this thread: "Sorry for having to crap out on you guys, but my quest for (a) beach body cannot be abandoned... no, it's just that I gotta hit the gym with my workout buddy and I can't bail out on him this time."

Hopefully I've provided the context needed to answer my question.

In the context you mentioned, yes you need an article. But if I were to say "I'm avoiding two-piece bathing suits until I've perfected my beach body," then no article is necessary.

You need the indefinite article ("a") there.
