Only 2 days remained before/up to/until/till the examination.
He hasn't been away from home before/so far.
He hasn't been away from home up to/until/till/ now.

2. He hasn't been away from home before. [STRIKE]/so far.[/STRIKE]
3. He hasn't been away from home up to/until/till/ before now.

See above.

In #3, they could all be possible depending on context.

I dithered over that one and ending up crossing it out because I couldn't come up with a natural scenario for it. I could, however, for something like "He hasn't left the house so far".
