My dictionary says 'blame' takes 'for', though, in the lyrics of a Supertramp song below 'about' is used.

I wonder if they are interchangeable or they just picked it just like others musicians who, though ungramatical, say she don't know because it fit the song better.

It's just heartbreaking
I should have known that it would let me down
It's just a mind aching
I used to dream about this town

It was a sight to see
The place to be,
Where the living is easy
And the kicks can always be found

It's such a shame about it
I used to think that it would feel so good
But who's to blame about it
So many creeps in Hollywood.............

In a song it is the rhyme that is important and takes precedence over grammar.
So 'shame about it' rhymes
with 'blame about it' much better.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say.

I have memorized 'blame about' having heard that song a lot of times. So, do I now have to unlearn it?
