Are my sentences grammatically correct?

Bob sat on the edge of the jetty, fishing under the blazing sky. His little radio was playing a pop song, and Bob was whistling along. Life couldn't be better for a hard-working man who just retired.

See above. I'm not keen on the word order or some of the word choices in the first sentence. I might say something like "Bob was fishing from the side of the jetty, under the blazing sun."
