This is original sentence:

Brands like this, tend to be popular for only a short period of time.

My suggestion on the example above is the following, as brands is plural:


Brands like these, tend to be popular for only a short period of time.

Even though "brands" is plural, if you only talk about a specific brand you use "this".

"Brands like these" is not wrong but it means something a little different.

Both could be correct if they lost the comma. It depends on whether you're discussing one brand or several. The comma is incorrect.
