Dear teachers,

What is the best synonym for the word "cabinet" in the following context?

"If you take a few moments to prepare your brain, you can make it easier for your brain to connect what you are learning to your prior knowledge, all those things that you already have filed away in your brain’s filing cabinet."

Thanks.

The thing is called a "filing cabinet." Why do you want to call it something else?

Dear teachers,

What is the best synonym for the word "cabinet" in the following context?

There isn't one.

Filing cabinets (look at them here) are purpose-built items of office furniture for storing paper files.

Hi Rover,
Thanks for your reply. I think the word cabinet has been used figuratively in this context. My first impression of this word was "space". What is your idea on this?

The idea of your brain being a filing cabinet is entirely figurative anyway. An actual metal filing cabinet is a piece of furniture where you file papers. Your brain is like a filing cabinet in that you store information in it.
