catch or hold?

Sometime naghty students are punished. They are asked to catch the ears and stand outside of the class.

I am not satisfied with the word catch here. Can we say HOLD the ears???

Which word ( catch or hold) is used in USA and UK ?

(1) What an interesting post!!!

(2) I had never heard of this kind of punishment until I read your post.

(3) Here in the United States, I believe the better word would be "hold":

Naughty students are instructed to hold their ears while standing outside the classroom.

(4) In this country, the schools could never do this. In fact, many

schools do not use the word "punishment" anymore. The schools are

afraid to hurt the feelings of "naughty" students.

What do the teachers do then to maintain the discipline in the classroom? What would you do if they are not listening to you and disturbing the whole class?

A teacher can't hit them when he gets irritated but how about boycotting them from the whole class or making them stand outside the classroom?

If reward is there for good work , what about punishment?

In our country we aren't allowed to make them stand outside the classroom... We should make them get interested in the lesson using different methods of teaching... And if a student is still breaking the rules we can make them stand somewhere in the classroom holding not his ears but the textbook and working with the rest...We also are trying to punish them less than before...;-)
