For years, I belonged to a health club and never got near the exercise machines. I went straight to the pool and swam laps, as I’d been doing since I was a teenager. I didn’t understand the machines. They looked boring to me. Then I took a class in creativity. “Each week do something you aren’t good at,” the teacher 40 . I had always chosen things I was reasonably good at. Was my own creative spirit still there?

The answer is "challenged". Does it make sense? Or is it naturally used?

I mean whether "challenged" is correctly used in the blank _40__.

Is that what you meant? I must admit my first instinct was that it wasn't very natural but actually, if the teacher was challenging you to try something you're not good at, then it's an acceptable choice.
