I hope it would be the last question on the book "Be Obsessed or Be average".
By the way, I couldn't figure out what might mean "chase for" and "have traded in" in the sentence below.

Does "trade in the obsession" mean to "exchage the obsession"? If so what it would has been traded for? Or it just mean "to trade with obsession".

I had traded in the obsession I thought I was chasing for hanging out with “friends” for movies, soccer, softball, and weekend barbecues, and too much introspection.

Your first guess is right. The author exchanged his obsession for something else which isn't clear in this mangled sentence.

When buying a car in the United States, many people trade in their old car. This means they sell it to the dealer (for much less than they could get if they sold it privately!) as part of the deal to buy the new car. The car you trade in is called a trade-in​.
