Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

Cheerleaders perform a sensual dance on the porch of a wooden pagoda.

cheerleader = someone who leads the cheers by spectators at a sporting even

cheerleaders= a group of supporters who cheer for sporting events and encourage audience participation

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V

In AmE, cheerleaders are exactly what you described - a group of supporters who cheer for sporting events and encourage audience participation. In the US amateur cheerleading (as opposed to cheerleaders for professional sports teams) is considered an athletic event in and of itself, requiring not only precision choreography but also superb tumbling skills.

Usually the only cheerleaders who perform "sensual dances" are those hired to cheer for professional teams.
