Would you please correct the mistakes in my sentences? Does my second sentence make sense in English?

Clive would see his psychotherapist once a week. After every visit, he would go into a pub and drink a few pints of lager, as if he wanted to wash down his past.

I'd use "Clive saw" or "Clive used to see" at the beginning. The modal "would" in the next part is OK. I'd use "to wash away his past".
