I have to identify in a sentence the proper, concrete abstract and collective nouns.

The sentence is:- The public lost faith in Informaticom after they laid off all their older employees.

Surely public and employees are both collective nouns or am I just being daft????

First, identify all of the nouns. Second, try on your own to identify which type each noun is. After you've made a good effort on your own, I, or one of the other teachers, will help you complete your assignment.

Hint: You are right about public, but wrong about employees (it is a plural form of a concrete noun).
