In BrE, would the comma go inside or outside the ending quotes in the following sentence – and why? Is the comma properly placed outside the ending quotes (in British style) as I've done?

When Raymott said, "Please don't split your infinitives or dangle your participles", Frogboxer said that he wouldn't.

In BrE, would the comma go inside or outside the ending quotes in the following sentence – and why? Is the comma properly placed outside the ending quotes (in British style) as I've done?

"The comma comes inside the quotes," he replied. Why? Convention, I guess.
By the way, I'd never tell you not to split infinitives.
