The question is this:

Of the two sports centre in the town , the one next to my house is definitely .............. luxurious.

a) the more b) most c) more d) much more e) the most

The correct answer is a, but I don't understand the logic behind it and why not c and d are incorrect?

I've searched in the net but couldn't find anything about this subject.

Thanks for advance for your answers.

Hello benjpound, and welcome to the forum.

We use superlative adjectives when talking about more than two entities. In your example, we have only two sports centres, so that rules out choices "b" and "e".

Furthermore, in that example, we are referring to two specific entities ("the two sports centres in the town"). Therefore, we need the definite article in the structure above to refer to either of those. That rules out choices "c" and "d".
