I am reading a story. Ben is a bad boy (8 years old). Margy is his mather friend. Ben's neighbor lost a headscarf.

"Margy remembered the fingernails of the two boys engrained with earth, and guessed that the headscarf had been used to wrap up Mabel, Ben’s guinea-pig, before confining her to the gerbil and guinea-pig graveyard beside the box hedge."

I could not understand what is 'confining her to the gerbil' means. I understood that boys (Ben and his brother) had wrapped up Mabel (the guinea-pig) and then buried in a graveyard near the box hedge. If so, what is meaning of "confining her to the gerbil" here. thanks for your help!

It's "... confining her to the gerbil and guinea-pig graveyard beside the box hedge" - to the graveyard for gerbils and guinea-pigs.
