Hi,

Could you tell me the grammar in the sentence below which I found in an English test
I remember his asking very stupid questions.

For me, I would replace his by him because it must be a pronoun 'him' acting as an object in this case instead of a possessive adjective 'his'

Thanks

You can use either pronoun. I'll submit my understanding but you should wait for an authoritative opinion.

With his (which I'm pretty sure Fowler prefers), his asking very stupid questions is a noun phrase and the sentence could reduce to "I remember a noun." With him, there's an implied comma and asking very stupid questions is an adjectival phrase modifying him.
