And what a "brain truster" might be is anyone's guess. I've never heard of it. Have you looked each word up in a standard English dictionary (one that gives definitions, not a German-English dictionary)?

It's an expert adviser involved in making important decisions but usually lacking official status.

Well, it might be used in some specific circles (in which I don't move!) but I've never heard it before.
