Hi,
The context is as follows:
deputy director, corporation division
would division in this context mean "sector" or just the section/department that is responsible for corporations?

Thanks in advance.

"Divisions" of a large company, such as an oil & gas company might include "Petroleum Products Division", "Chemicals Division", "Storage & Transport Division" etc, each operating (semi-) autonomously, with their own appropriate separate departments.

PS Each "Division" may have different commercial "drivers", and/or operate under different market conditions/forces.

Is it closer in meaning to section or sector?

Departments may be divided into Sections i.e. Sections are way below the level of a Corporate Division.

Personally, I tend to think of Sectors in Marketing terms e.g. the SE Asian market/Sector, which may be organised across Divisions, by a Sales & Marketing Division, with specialists in handling sales within specific countries/regional Sectors.

I don't think there is any one, established way the language is used. Different companies will use different terminology for these things. My "Region" might be someone else's "Section."
