Correct address

My male friend has died, so how would I now correctly address a letter to his widow and make a cheque out to her?

His name was Mr M Jones
So would the letter still be addressed Mrs M Jones
or now in her own name Mrs R Jones

If she's a recent widow, it's correct to address her either as Mrs. M. Jones or Mrs. R. Jones. A few months from now, Mrs. R Jones will be more appropriate.
