Well, I am not a teacher, just some personal comments...
1 I wouldn't stay at home ( if it's your own home I don't think we need "the"?)
2 No comments
3 He spent a lot of money on it.
4 I feel that it's not correct, but not sure how to correct it. What about this: The house's value has been increasing since they bought it.
5 Depends on the context. If the town is not mentioned earlier, then "a".
