Hi teachers,
If the answer is 'They did not get much sleep', would 'How much did they rest?' be an appropriate question?
If that’s a correct question, do I need ‘time’ after ‘how much’?

Would this one be better?
Did they rest very well? Explain your answer.
No they didn't. They did not get much sleep.

Thanks in advance.

There are lots of questions which might fit that answer. Your two suggestions are grammatically correct, but would probably not be used by a native speaker. Some suggestions:

"Did they have a quiet night?"
"How was their overnight stay?"
"Did they have a comfortable room last night?"
"Why are Jack and Jill looking so tired this morning?"

Or - if you wanted to be mischievous:

"How was their honeymoon?"

Hi Grumpy,
Thanks for your reply. I definitely should have given the context.
They did not get much sleep. They stayed in the office and slept between telephone calls. The phones rang often, but in the morning there was no news of him.

They, are detectives. So I can't be naughty, can I?. This one, "How was their honeymoon?" after given the context can't work!;-)
