Could you teach me which is right?

Hello, teachers.

I would like to know which of the following sentences is correct.

1) The banana has an underground stem, from which comes large green leaves.
2) The banana has an underground stem, from which come large green leaves.



To me, the subject of the verb 'come' seems to be 'large green leaves' as a plural though it is behind the verb come. I don't know why it is there. Anyway the sentence is strange to me. Could you teach me which is right?

'...come' is correct.

Please note that 'from which come/comes' would have been a better title for this thread.

#1 is OK grammatically. #2 is not.

When you say "the banana" it brings to mind the fruit. You should say "the banana plant."

Yes, same meaning as original sentence #2.

You are talking about the banana plant. The plant has a stem from which leaves come.

The banana is the yellow fruit you see in the supermarket.

An apple and an apple tree are not the same thing.
