Does any body can explain what does "cut through the froth" mean?

I'm pretty sure it means that the 'froth' is wrong,unclear or unimportant information. 'To cut through the froth' means to find the truth.

I would have thought it was more like ignoring the extraneous and going for the substance of something [like skimming off the top of a cappuccino to drink the coffee underneath]
